Product details
Pinion is Meril's barbed knotless suture — the thread carries tiny angled barbs along its length, so it anchors in the tissue as it passes and holds without a knot.
Why knotless
- No knot to tie, and no knot to fail. The knot is the weakest point of any conventional closure and the commonest place a closure gives way
- Tension spreads evenly along the whole line instead of concentrating at knots
- Faster closure, which matters most on long runs — arthroplasty capsule and arthrotomy, abdominal wall, caesarean
- Single-surgeon closure without an assistant holding tension
Two materials in this range
Check the product title — it states which:
- PDO (polydioxanone) — the longer-holding option. Used where the tissue needs support for an extended period: fascia, joint capsule, abdominal wall.
- PGA-PCL — a glycolide-caprolactone copolymer, absorbed faster than PDO. Used where the tissue heals quickly and prolonged support is not needed.
Supplied undyed and violet, unidirectional and bidirectional, in a range of needle types.

A note on handling
Barbed suture does not behave like conventional thread — it will not slide backwards, so tension is set as you go and cannot be pulled up afterwards. Surgeons new to it usually want one case with someone who has used it before. We can arrange that.
