Polyester hernia mesh — non-absorbable, knitted, for permanent reinforcement of the abdominal wall. Mericron Mesh is the polyester option in Meril's hernia repair range; the polypropylene options sit alongside it.
Polyester or polypropylene — the actual decision
- Polyester (Mericron Mesh) — softer and more pliable in the hand than polypropylene, drapes onto the defect rather than fighting it
- Polypropylene (Filaprop Mesh, and Filaprop Mesh Soft) — the workhorse, strong and durable, most-used mesh in Indian theatres
- Macroporous polypropylene (Merigrow) — large pores for faster tissue ingrowth and a more flexible scar
- Composite, part-absorbable (Absomesh) — polyglecaprone 25 with polypropylene, so less permanent material is left behind once the defect is supported
Every one of those is stocked here, in the same sheet sizes. If the surgeon has asked for a mesh by a brand name we do not carry, tell us the material and the size and we will show you the equivalent.
Where it is used
- Inguinal hernia repair, open and laparoscopic
- Ventral and incisional hernia repair — the larger sheets are cut to the defect
- Soft-tissue reinforcement where a permanent repair is wanted
