Soft polypropylene hernia mesh — the same polypropylene as the standard mesh, knitted from a thinner filament, so it feels softer and has more give.
Two things follow from the thinner filament: it is easier to position because it drapes instead of springing back, and there is less foreign material left in the patient. The distinct knitting pattern keeps the strength up despite the lighter filament.
Stocked in 6Ă—11, 7.6Ă—15, 12Ă—18 and 15Ă—20 cm.
Where it is used
- Inguinal and ventral hernia repair where the surgeon wants a lighter feel
- Thin or elderly patients, where a stiff mesh can be felt through the wall
