Product details
PGLA is Meril's polyglactin 910 braided synthetic absorbable suture — the general-purpose absorbable most theatres run on.
What it is used for
- Soft tissue approximation and ligation, across most general, gynaecological and paediatric procedures
- Layers that heal at a normal rate and do not need long-term support
- Braided and coated, so it handles predictably and knots down securely
Standard and fast-absorbing
This range includes both the standard polyglactin 910 and a fast-absorbing version — check the product title, which states it. Fast-absorbing is used where the suture is only needed briefly, typically skin and mucosa, and where you want to avoid removal. Standard polyglactin holds longer and is the usual choice for deeper layers.

Polyglactin, PDO or polyglecaprone — which one
Polyglactin 910 is the middle option and the right default for most soft tissue. Where the tissue must be held for much longer — fascia, or a diabetic or immunosuppressed patient — polydioxanone (our Filaxyn) holds far longer. Where the scar will be visible, a monofilament such as polyglecaprone 25 (our Filapron) is preferred, because a braid drags through the dermis. If you want polyglactin with an antibacterial coating, that is our Mitsu range, available with triclosan or chlorhexidine.
